About Dan Furman

Entrepreneur... website conversion expert... writer of clear, persuasive sales and business copy... author of business books... home-based business guru... corporate marketing consultant... business coach... that pain in the @#$% who made some of his bosses lives miserable...

All of these can describe Dan Furman (although he will definitely dispute the pain in the @#$% one... Really, you should have seen some of the people he's worked for.)

Business Stuff

Dan's greatest strength - whether he's writing business/marketing copy, writing a book, speaking, consulting, training/coaching, etc - is breaking difficult concepts into clear, simple, effective ideas. Because, in reality, most people make business (and life) way more complicated than they need to be.

Utilizing a clear, Plain English "No BS" approach in everything he does, Dan's "common sense" business acumen benefits companies of all sizes - he helps entrepreneurs start small companies; he helps small companies grow larger; and he helps large companies get back what made them large in the first place. Dan works by himself, one-on-one, or with groups of all sizes - however the client needs him.

An engaging writer, speaker, and business coach/consultant, Dan teaches others that success - whether personal or corporate - is really not that hard. In fact, the more basic and clear you can make things, the better off you will be.

This means Dan isn't going to "assist in the development phase and implementation process of your unique selling proposition while focusing on the paradigms that encompass ROI-based solutions" (err... what?)

Instead, Dan's going help you and your company clearly see the things that affect your bottom line, and how you can use this knowledge to make business (and life) better. "Life" is in there because Dan often mixes personal development with business/marketing. He does this because businesses are made of.... people. Thus, the benefit is twofold - when ideas and concepts are better, business is stronger; and when people themselves are better as well, business is stronger still.

Personal Stuff

Dan and Maryellen Dan is 43 years old, lives in Kingston NY, and has been married to his wife, Maryellen, since 1999 (they married in Vegas a month after meeting... apparently Dan has some pretty good instincts... so does she!)

His 25 year business career spans a plethora of industries - Dan has been a retail manager / buyer, car salesperson, corporate marketing executive, over-the-road salesperson covering the entire Northeast, e-commerce programmer (EDI and ERP systems in particular), webmaster, and business owner several times over.

His varied career was a direct result to his "do it my way" demeanor. Dan is a natural entrepreneur - while successful just about everywhere, Dan disliked micromanagement and petty power games, and as a result, most superiors eventually tired of him. Several ventures on his own in the late 80's and mid 90's ended in failure (a key learning point for any good entrepreneur), but by 2001, Dan got it right, and bid corporate America goodbye for the last time.

Now both sides get the best of both worlds - the business world gets Dan's exceptional work and marketing/business insight, and Dan gets to do things his way. The ultimate win/win.

Dan also "fits" into almost any industry, and is a fast learner (evidenced by his copywriting / marketing skill, and the fact that he's also a self taught computer expert/programmer - a somewhat rare "both right and left brain" combination).

When not running his business and seeing clients, Dan enjoys just being home with Maryellen and their two pets (a dog and a cat). He also enjoys working on his house (he's a pretty good electrician), video games, sports, fantasy football, scotch, fine cigars, movies (has somewhere around a half million DVD's), music, intelligent discussion, reading, autumn weather, visiting brewpubs, weekend trips with Maryellen to historical places, and long walks on the beach (actually, that last part is a lie - he really doesn't like the beach at all, preferring the woods by a big margin.) He also collects Owl stuff.
